Young Achievers Award

Lesmahagow Development Trust (LDT) Young Achievers Grants are available to young people still at school who live in Lesmahagow, Blackwood, Kirkmuirhill, Draffan, Boghead and Auchenheath.

The grant purpose is to financially assist the applicant in attending/entering competitions both nationally and internationally in an activity for which they have ALREADY shown a significant and recognised level of aptitude. Whilst LDT recognise the benefits of skill building camps and residential sports or arts classes these do not generally meet the criteria for funding.

This is an ongoing award programme with no deadlines.

Allocation decisions will be made Quarterly at the LDT Board Meeting following the cut-off dates below. Only applications which include ALL of the Required Information & Supporting Documentation and arrive BEFORE the cut-off dates will be considered.

  • 1st March
  • 1st June
  • 1st September
  • 1st December

Each Application will be considered by the LDT Board on a case by case basis. There will be a maximum award of £500.

The LDT Board anticipates applications for support for young people in relation to Sporting, Dancing, Gymnastics, Recreation, Cycling, Biking, Music and Arts Competitions. Given this is a new Grant Programme the LDT Board is not at this time being overly prescriptive on what can and can’t be funded. This is to encourage as wide a range of applications as possible. We may also invite successful young people to come along to LDT events to share information on how the grant has helped them.

Please note the following:

  • All information received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and all documents submitted will be destroyed upon finalisation of the application.
  • Only One Grant Award can be made to a young person in any 12 month period.
  • The grant cannot be made retrospectively for spend already incurred.
  • The LDT Board will require evidence of spend e.g. copy of receipts within 3 months of completion.
  • A short one-page report on completion should be provided. This should outline how the award was spent. This will be really helpful to let the LDT Board know the difference the award has made to a young person. If the young person wishes to do this rather than the parent or guardian that would be welcomed. Photographs can also be provided.
  • Any quotes from the report or photographs provided must have all permissions in place. When providing the report please note that this should be signed by the parent or guardian. This signature will be giving consent to LDT to use the reports or photographs to promote the grant scheme to others.
  • The Final Decision on approval or rejection of the Application will be made by the Management Board of Lesmahagow Development Trust.

If you have any questions about the fund please do not hesitate to pop in to the LDT office in the Resource Centre on Abbeygreen or telephone 896941. We will be happy to help.
